The Psychology of Reading
An interesting paper on how we read has been produced by Microsoft’s Typography department. The key question it looks at is whether we read by recognising the shape of the word or by reading the individual letters of the word. It touches on saccades which are the rapid eye movements we make when reading. There is evidence that points to a dyslexics inability to make these saccades in a control manner and thus making the letters appear to jump around.
