Death of Dyslexia
The Death of Dyslexia conference took place last week with Professors Snowling and Elliot among the speakers. All the speakers Powerpoint slides are available online if you wish to get a flavour of what was said.
The two slide sets from Snowling and Elliot are interesting. Prof Elliot continues his dyslexia equals poor readers mantra though he seems, from his slides at least, to have turned it down a bit since The Dyslexia Myth TV programme. Though he still did a slide specifically on DDAT. He really does have a bee in his bonnet about them.
Professor Snowling’s slides suggest her talk was far more inline with here recent statement via the BDA than with The Dyslexia Myth programme. She claims dyslexia does exist and is different from being a poor reader. She also recognises that dyslexia consists of visual elements and executive control (attention span and short-term memory) problems but maintains it is predominately a phonological problem.
