The Cost of Dyslexia

Over on the I Speak of Dreams blog, Liz has posted on research in the cost of untreated dyslexia and reading problems. The research focus on Texas and the cost is measure by the different crime rates amongst readers and non-readers: "Every 1,000 nonreaders released from prison will cost taxpayers $12 million in future prison costs, because their rate of recidivism is higher, compared with $7.2 million for those who can read".
I haven’t been able to track down the original study and find out how it was done and whether the results stand up for analysis, It apparently was done by the Dyslexia Research Foundation of Texas for which I can find no web site, though  William B. Hilgers appears to be the chairman.
