Decoding Psychiatric Propaganda
Psychbusters are a group who have very negative opinions about the profession of psychiatry. The sort of opinions Tom Cruise would be proud of. But these are not the ravings of a deranged scientologist. "Psychbusters is an independent webgroup primarily made up of mental health reform activists, alternative health advocates and survivors of psychiatric practice".
Not surpassingly it has much to say about ADHD and Ritalin, such as: "The lie that Ritalin is a mild stimulant is even more difficult to maintain since a recently concluded study at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, not only confirmed the similarities of cocaine and Ritalin, but found that Ritalin is more potent than cocaine in its effect on the dopamine system in the brain. Referring to Ritalin as ‘kiddy cocaine’ is not a joke".
Note that Psychbusters do not provide a link to the study in question so its impossible to check the truth of their claim.

The article you refer to is “Pay Attention: Ritalin Acts Much Like Cocaine,” Journal of the American Medical Association, August 22/29. (Dr Nora Volkow, Brookhaven National Laboratory).
On a separate note – labelling any individual or group as “deranged” on the basis of holding an alternative viewpoint is, quite simply, disgusting. What Scientologists choose to believe in is entirely up to them. The same goes for anyone of any religious persuasion.
Demanding the most basic of human rights, valid research, safe and workable forms of healing and increased awareness for all, is an issue that strikes at the hearts of many human beings, of varying colours and creeds. Hopefully, these are things that you, and your organisation, work and strive for too.

Michael, thanks for the study reference. I’ll post a proper link to it soon.
Scientology is a cult based around a dead, and lets be honest, crap SF author. It has systematically tries to surpress negative coverage of its activities through legal and not-so-legal methods. So if Tom Cruise, a high profile member of that organisation goes on TV and is basically incoherant then I’m happy with the word deranged.
