Stronger Warnings on ADHD Drugs

An advisory panel to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration has voted by a narrow majority to add a ‘black box’ warning to methylphenidates such as Ritalin, Concerta, Methylin and Metadate. This follows the deaths of 19 children and six adults being linked to the drugs which are used by over 2 million children a year. Currently Adderall has a warning telling patients with heart conditions not to use the drug and Strattera has a black-box warning that it may prompt suicidal thoughts in children.
