ADHD and Gifted Children
The Eide Neuro Learning Blog has a great take on new research about how the brain structure of high IQ children is different from other children. This research is being covered in Nature and the New York Times but the Eide’s take is different:
“This may not come as a complete surprise to some parents of gifted children. In a press release that is now racing around the Internet, NIMH researchers show us that the higher one’s I.Q., the more immature prefrontal cortex development…at least age 7. Aha.“
It is notable that ADHD and dyslexia are developmental problems where the child exhibits behaviour and skill levels more suitable for a child several years younger.
