You Are Boring
“A DEVICE that can pick up on people’s emotions is being developed to help people with autism relate to those around them. It will alert its autistic user if the person they are talking to starts showing signs of getting bored or annoyed.“
As human emotions are very complex and facial expressions very hard for a computer to read I am doubtful that this will ever become a viable product. I’m also slightly concerned by the approach taken. Autistic people have problem’s reading emotions but they can learn to do it with the right training and a lot of effort. Devices like this are potential crutches. Useful as a temporary support on a road to something better but poor as a long-term solution.
Device warns you if you’re boring or irritating
