Stim Nation: ADHD Patch Approved Despite Concerns
Daytrana, the first patch (similar to a nicotine patch) for ADHD has been approved by the FDA. The patch caused controversy when a FDA reviewer “advised the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) agency that it has too many side-effects.
Dr Levin is an FDA Clinical Reviewer and he recommended against approval of the patch, citing increased incidence of insomnia, anorexia, decreased appetite and the potential for skin sensitization. Later Dr Levin changed his advice to committee“.
The patch is designed to be worn for 9 hours it contains methylphenidate, the same stimulant that is used in Ritalin. The patch is made by Noven Pharmaceuticals Inc. of Miami.
