Myomancy ADHD, Dyslexia and Autism

Worn out but determined to keep going!

Worn out but determined to keep going!

My daughter is 9 & has been on the Dore programme for 6months.  Most days she asks when can she stop and we do our best to encourage her on!

I wanted to share some really good advice we were given at our last Dore appointment and its effect has been amazing.  Rachel would frequently become upset at the suggestion of doing her exercises - sometimes she would be willing & cooperative but mostly it would take at least 1/2hr for her to calm down after getting herself really upset - leaving us all exhausted including her 2 younger sisters. The worst time for us was when she packed her suitcase and wanted to leave home because we wouldn't let her give up.

The advice was to put on a clock timer for 10mins at the start of the exercises ( suggested time it should take to do them ) and if she completes them within this time the rest of the time it would normally have taken her would be given as 1:1 special time later that evening or added up for something fun at  the weekend.  Rachel enjoys turning on the timer at the start of the exercises and she loves accruing special time.

Hope this advice can help others.  She still has moments of not wanting to do them - but these are no where near as frequent or as difficult as they were.

Would love to hear from others who have/have had similar battles! Lynda
